Fashion Friday {Style Inspiration}

there are people in our lives, and in the media, who seem to inspire a certain style within us. whether i am reading a magazine, looking at artwork, or watching television i often see something that will motivate my style of dress.
for example, i love Audrey Hepburn. every time i see Breakfast at Tiffany's i want to pull out my LBD and plan a night out on the town with Tman.
or perhaps i am looking at my favorite artist, Mark Rothko, and the simplicity and beauty of his work makes me want to simplify in my own life. maybe i'll just stick to black leggings and a solid tee.

even listening to one of my favorite cd's will provoke the idea of the old Emo standby: corduroy pants, thrift store sweater, and white belt (big belt buckle optional).

it is like that saying you always heard from your parents as a child, "You are known by the company you keep". i am just curious to know, what kind of company are you keeping?

Recent Projects

here are some photos from a shoot Kellie and i recently worked on together. i had such a hard time choosing which pictures not to put up. this woman is gorgeous and it was so fun going for that "Hollywood Glamour" look with her.

this shoot was a lot of fun and i enjoyed every minute of it.

Surprise!

i'm sure some of you have already caught on to the fact that i have been posting erratically the last couple months, seen me around town in my baggy clothes, or spied that growing bump on my belly.

Surprise!

i'm pregnant. :) thanks for continuing to support me even when my blog skills have been lacking. second trimester is here and i am feeling good!

Why You Need A Makeup Artist

my favorite photographer sent me this link to an article about Makeup Artists. of course i loved the article because it explains why you need a MUA and the benefits of using one. if you are a photographer, and are interested in seeing the article, you can check it out HERE

Fashion Friday {D.I.Y. Style}

i recently came across a blog recommended by my friend kiki. the name of the blog is MADE. the woman who created it is always coming up with these great DIY projects and she is a wiz at designing clothes that are simple, chic, and easy to create yourself. one of her recent posts was how to make this skirt:

Winter Skirt Tutorial Here
this photo really doesn't do the skirt justice. if you click through on the link above you will see more pictures, an adorable spring skirt she made from the same pattern, and simple instructions on how to DIY.

i hope you enjoy her blog as much as i did because it is amazing. plus she has a penchant for Texas which is a state dear to my heart. don't mess with Texas.

Recent Projects

i have had these pictures forever and i keep forgetting to post them. this was a shoot i did way back in the beginning of December and awesome Melissa Jones sent me the finished product. we worked with this fun woman who may be the next exercise guru.

of course i'll include my self promotion...

this was such a fun shoot but FREEZING cold. i am pretty sure it was negative degrees that day and this brave woman did it all with a smile on her face. that's a professional.

Leopard Print Nail Tutorial

my friend Missy does some really fun nail tutorials and this is her version of the leopard print. i wear this once in a while and i always get questions on how to do it. while Missy's version is a little different than my own (i simply layer a black dot over a brown dot) it might be fun to try.

Almay Pure Blends {Grail or Fail}

recently i mentioned CVS (thanks to reader Jen for informing us about Walgreens) was clearancing their makeup products. like i said before, now is the time to test out those products you have been interested in, but not interested enough to spend full price.

one of the products i purchased and had been wanting to try was the Almay foundation. i had heard good things about it from others but hadn't yet tried it myself. i picked up the Pure Blends foundation, which is their line of eco-friendly, natural, beauty products. ordinarily this retails for $10 but on clearance it was only $2.50.

(if you are interested in trying it looks like most companies are clearancing it to make way for new lines as well
<------------------------------------------------------)

while it doesn't compare to my absolute favorite Make Up Forever Foundation, i prefer to use a less expensive foundation for everyday wear when i'm running to and from school, play groups, and the grocery store. i simply can't afford the $40 a bottle of MUF to run through every 3-4 months so i invest in a less expensive product to use for the humdrum daily business. this foundation works great and the coverage is light which is perfect for those of you who are little uncomfortable breaking into the world of liquid foundation. i would rate this product as a Grail and suggest you give it a try if you happen to by stopping by a CVS or Walgreens.

Makeup Tip {Just-Minted Penny}

copper is a color that is flattering on every skin tone. whether you are the palest pale to the darkest dark, copper is one of those no fail hues to try.  try it in eyeshadow, highlighter, blush or even lipstick.

one basic metallic look would be to rim you entire eye with copper, dust it on your cheeks and swipe your lips with a copper hue. get that just-minted penny look that works for everyone.

Fashion Friday {Winter Schlump}

okay, i am writing this post with a slight hint of desperation. i need your help. i have fallen into that dreaded winter slump where it is SO COLD outside that the only thing i am willing to dress myself in is this:

which is cute occassionally but becomes a slight problem when i wear it every. single. day. i can't help myself. i just want something that is comfy (stretchy jeggings) warm (crocheted boots) and easy (jersey tee).

i decided to head to my new favorite fashion website and try to put together an outfit that is casual, but realistic. here's what i came up with:

casual but cute. please, help me. if you have any good ideas for looking cute while staying warm i would love to hear.

Makeup Clearance

every year CVS clearances many of their makeup items to make way for new product lines in the new year. i just dropped in yesterday to pick up a few things and i saw that it has started. if you are in the market for some new makeup, you can score product for 75% off. i grabbed a few products i've been wanting to try but didn't want to invest the $12 per product...now $3 per product...that i can handle. this may be just the opportunity to try that electric blue eyeshadow you've been hesitating to buy. every L'Oreal H.I.P. pigment pot was clearancing. yippee!

Happy New Year!

hello everyone! it's so good to be back to bloggin'. these last two weeks have been crazy with family visiting, the holidays, and keeping my children (who are out of school) preoccupied. thanks for understanding.

to start off the new year let's begin with a makeup tip. i received some fun makeup stuff for Christmas but my favorite product was definitely the Beauty Blender.

this cute little sponge is Hollywood's secret to that flawless airbrushed look. by applying your makeup with a sponge, you will get great coverage and no harsh lines. to achieve a dewy fresh face, simply dip your sponge in some water, squeeze out the excess, and apply your foundation. by dampening your sponge first you will ensure that your foundation is applied with consistency and an even application, giving your face an overall flawless look.

ps. here is reader Jen's tip on how she gets her dewy skin (while saving money on product):

Immediately aftering showering apply moisturizer to face and then apply foundation with moisturized fingers to moisturized face. The foundation goes on smoothly and flawlessly. Let dry a couple minutes before applying more makeup.

thanks Jen!
