Hot Rolled Hair

i recently picked up some of my favorite things from the newly redesigned B-Glowing. www.b-glowing.com is a beauty website bringing all of your beauty needs under one roof, or in this case home page. St. Tropez, Deborah Lippman and T3 were some of my favorites to be found; you should check it out to see if yours are there as well.

i have been wanting to do a hot roller review for some time now but haven't had the moulah to invest in some decent rollers (thank you b.glowing!). the T3 Rollers were an obvious choice for me because i heart the T3 blowdryer i own and these rollers are the peanut butter to my jam. they heat up quickly, curl well and give my hair the va-va-va-volume it needs on those days i just can't be bothered.

below is my 2nd day hair: flat, limp and lifeless. pop in your hot rollers, apply your make and by the time your finished

hello, volume.

the b-glowing website is so easy to navigate and easy to shop, plus they are offering some sweet deals for the holidays. holiday shipping is still available so hurry over www.b-glowing.com!

TRESemmé Style Studio

TRESemmé reached out to to share the word about their new Style Studio. with over 100 hair styling 'How To' videos this is your go-to for any hairstyle you have been wanting to achieve.

last week i had a viewer request Kenley Collins styling (from Project Runway). not knowing exactly how to style Kenley's penchant for vintage, i headed to the TRESemmé Style Studio for direction. i immediately found the video i was looking for, watched it and within minutes had my own vintage style.

[applause]

if you would like to get her vintage glam makeup look, check out this video

TRESemmé Style Studio is an amazing resource for hairstyling. the video tutorials are easy to follow, quick to achieve and nearly every hairstyle is featured. if you are looking for some holiday inspiration, i would suggest finding it at http://tresstylestudio.com

Warning: videos are extremely addictive. before falling down the rabbit hole of hairstyling, make sure you have appropriate snacks on hand, chores completed and all work done.

Hard Candy Glitter Eye

i have been a bit obsessed with this Hard Candy palette lately but that could be due to the fact i have been lusting after a Naked (by Urban Decay) palette for so long i have finally found a dupe that won't cost me $50.

hint: if anyone is interested in gifting me the Urban Decay Naked palette i won't turn it down.

pictured below is my sworn dupe, the Hard Candy palette along with Walk The Line glitter eyeliner:

i used these to items to create a sparkly holiday eye. the picture above shows the glitter in its full glory however the pictures below don't do that sparkle justice. it is even sparklier in person!

  1. apply lightest shimmer to the brow bone.
  2. apply medium brown shade to crease.
  3. apply Walk The Line glitter eyeliner to entire eyelid.
  4. with the darkest brown shade, contour the outer corner of eyelid and into the crease.
  5. dramatic liner and false lashes are a must for this look. sparkle and falsies go together like peanut butter and jelly.

Victoria's Secret Holiday Ideas

this past weekend was spent with family and enjoying the holiday season. it was a bit of a whirlwind but every second was so precious and fun that it was well worth the 20+ hours of driving in 72 hours to spend 30 hours with family. [editors note: 16 of those hours were spent with white knuckles driving through snow and ice, but still worth it!]

some of our favorite holiday traditions around the Burnett Blushing Basics house include gift giving (obvs) but every year the gift themes stay the same. a pair of pajamas to spend Christmas Eve in style, an ornament for the tree to remember something special about the previous year and of course lots of lip balm to make our pouts kissably soft for the mistletoe.

a big thank you to Victoria's Secret for helping us give those gifts in style. pictured above are the cutest (and coziest) holiday jammies you have seen. candy cane stripes, metallic highlights and adorable buttons - not a detail was missed. i am in love with these pajamas because they are not your typical flannel pant. they are much cuter, transforming you into an adorable holiday elf. plus, all pajamas are on sale right now (check them out here!) and it is not too late to get them before Christmas.

now, i think my life would be complete if i also had these jammies in the amazing animal prints they offer as well...

one of my favorite things to do is to hang our ornaments and remember all the fun reasons why we have them. our guitar from Gatlinburg, Tennessee, our porcelain ornaments from Beijing, China, our gold crowns from London, England - all favorite memories of ours. so why not a perfume ornament from Victoria's Secret to celebrate my amazing year in beauty and blogging? plus, the perfume is the miniature version of the FiFi awarded perfume which to a beauty blogger is heaven.

last but not least is the lipgloss - something you definitely don't want to skimp on. gloss it up and often. make sure your kisses are share and passed around freely this holiday season. you want the people in your life know how much you love them. plus it is flavored, a gift for them & for you.

what traditions will you be rockin' this season?

Stocking Stuffer Suggestions

why do i love the Holidays? all of the great gift packs, limited edition items and endless possibilities.

along with that i am obsessed with all things miniature. perhaps it is my small stature (i am five foot one-ish) or the fact that i find all things tiny to be adorable.

combine the Holidays with miniature and you've got STOCKING STUFFERS! in the spirit of stocking stuffers i wanted to share some of my favorite stocking stuffer ideas:

Skindinavia Makeup Finishes:

Skindinavia designs one of the best makeup sprays in the business. this makeup spray not only sets your makeup in place it improves makeup quality. this super spray keeps foundation out of fine lines, reduces shine and brightens color. Skindinavia works with any makeup, and works well. for the Holiday season Skindinavia has released the Holiday Hero Pack: four small bottles that make the perfect stocking stuffing or dainty addition to any gift.

Emi-Jay for Splendid:

Emi-Jay is a hair accessories company created by two teens. On a mission to create cute hair ties (that work as jewelry or hair accessories) they share a portion of their proceeds to help the Step Up Women's Network Young Luminaries program. partnering with one of my favorite clothing brands - Splendid - they have created a series of hair ties exclusively available at all Splendid stores. cute, adorable & smart. these girls and their accessories are making it happen.

GoSwype microfiber cleansing cloths:
if you are anything like me your smartphone is constantly in the hands of your children. my kids have their favorite games to play or they like to turn on the music or take pictures. all these activities result in a screen completely blurred by fingerprints and smudges. (of course i would never blame any of that on my makeup...) GoSwpe is the perfect solution. they're tiny, portable, clean 98% percent of germs and bacteria and come in perfect designs for any man/woman/teen.

if you have any good stocking stuffer suggestions, please share!

Quick & Easy Hair Tutorial

this Sunday i was in a rush to get myself ready. don't ask me why it is always a rush to get out the door on Sundays, but it is. with virtually no time to do my hair i opted for an old favorite, the braided front pony.

simply braid the front section of hair, tease the crown and pull into an elastic. takes no more than 5 minutes. easy hair styles are a favorite of mine. with three kids to get ready in addition to myself, my 'styling' time is often nonexistent.

if you have an easy hair style favorite i would love to hear, i'm always on the hunt for a new one.

Laura Mercier Colour To Go Palette

you know i heart Laura Mercier and their Colour To Go Palette is one of my favorites for the holidays. it is a compact that houses every eyeshadow color, eyeliner, blush, bronzer and lip gloss for a complete look. the perfect item for packing when you are heading out to party the night away during the holidays.

i am a palette lover but i often find them incomplete - typically lacking an essential shade or color. this Colour To Go palette was used to create one of my favorite holiday looks so far, the purple holiday eye. created in my latest favorite fashion (the style i dubbed 'the hollywood eye') by dramatically extending the color past the outer corner of the eye and connect with the end of the eyebrow.

i may be tiptoeing a fine line between drag queen and beautiful makeup but i am in love.

  1. apply highlighter color over entire eyelid.
  2. blend neutral midtone shade into crease.
  3. apply deeper midtone to outer corner of eye.
  4. using Tightline Cake Eyeliner (darkest shade) draw a line in your crease.
  5. enjoy!

Too Faced Giveaway!

i am a fan of online beauty stores because they often provide all of my favorites in one location. sometimes you find hidden gems like discontinued items or perhaps a great coupon code will get you your 'Wish List' for more affordable prices.

when Planet Beauty generously sent me a box of goodies (they know the way to a beauty blogger's heart) and offered to host a giveaway for Blushing Basics readers i was on board. i headed to their website www.planetbeauty.com and browsed through their selection of makeup to select the prize, among my favorite brands were Stila, Too Faced, Cargo & Smashbox.

decisions, decisions.

it was tough deciding which makeup palette or holy grail item to choose but it finally came down to the Too Faced Naked Eye Palette:

the perfect neutral palette for creating natural to smokey eyes. matte and shimmer both included (yay for matte!) plus you have some great multi-purpose colors, i.e. shimmers for highlighting, cheek colors, etc.

below is a neutral eye using brown and grey. this was my 'church look' for Sunday because i can't be smokin' it up every day of the week.

  1. apply In The Buff to entire eyelid.
  2. contour crease with neutral brown shade (i'm using my MUFE light brown).
  3. use Unmentionables mixed with Lap Dance for additional crease accent.
  4. enjoy!

Happy Holidays

'Rickrolling' is a term used when promising visitors a link to Makeup Tutorial Videos but really directing them to this:

YouTube made waves in 2008 on April 1st when they redirected all of the videos on their landing page to the Rick Astley video shown above.

but how about 'Nickelbacking'? probably one of the worst bands of all time (my apologies to anyone who likes them - i am a bit of a music snob, just ask Tman). redirecting people to the cheesiest song ever: Photograph

how did we even get here?! i stumbled across the Nickelbacking gem while google searching apps for instagram on how to add effects/writing to pictures.

let me just say this: the holidays are a time for family, fun and laughter. so if you happen to get redirected to the worst video of all time, you've been Nickelbacked with love.

Angelina Jolie Makeup Tutorial

i just posted this look to YouTube yesterday and already received 26 'likes'. i hope that means even though it is not exactly Angelina, it still has the same appeal. regardless, this Angelina Jolie makeup tutorial will give you a gorgeous smokey eye, with barely any makeup and it is achieveable. (not a word)

the next few weeks i will be posting several holiday inspired makeup looks. let's be real, who doesn't want to look smokin' hot for the holidays? be sure to leave me a comment letting me know what you'd like to see, i almost always do it. except for that time i was asked to do a bikini wax tutorial, i'll let you figure that out on your own.

hope your weekend is filled with holiday cheer.

mark. Eye Makeup Tutorial/Review

ever since the first Twilight was released i have been interested in giving mark. products a try. what's the correlation? Ashley Greene was/is a spokesperson for mark. and that girl makes any cosmetic look good.

when offered the chance to sample these gorgeous products i eagerly accepted. i am happy to inform you that:

a) they are well pigmented and pretty awesome
b) hardly any fall out and great lasting power
c) great color combos make it easy to wear

in case you were wondering, i am a fan. mark. cosmetics are available online or through a representative sales program. the products used in today's tutorial are the eyeshadow palette trio and the in a whirl lipgloss.

on to the tutorial. i call this the hollywood holiday eye as its shape is wide and extends towards the brow, much like most of the eye makeup trends we are seeing on the red carpets. braving this style can be a bit scary at first, but sticking with neutral easy to wear colors like mark. eyeshadow trio makes it a cinch.

  1. apply silver as a highlighter starting at the inner corner of your eye to the middle of eyelid.
  2. using the green shade apply from the middle of the eyelid extending outwards towards the brow.
  3. with the darkest color (blue/black) apply to achieve a smoky feel to the outer edge of eye.
  4. contour the crease with a neutral brown. this helps the colors blend into the eye.
enjoy!

Le Métier de Beauté

let me introduce you to the creme de la creme of cosmetics Le Métier de Beauté. Le Métier de Beauté also known as LMDB is a luxury cosmetics line. well known for their kaleidoscope kits and ridiculously amazing products LMDB can be found at the top of every beauty buff's wishlist.

who loves anything luxury? this girl - and i am assuming most women - so i thought i would share some of the most recent product releases of Le Métier de Beauté. introduced in November were two new polish collections:

Cocoa Crazed: A Nuanced Twist on Neutral Nails. this fall has been all about cocoa neutrals. if i were to pick one 'it' color for Fall 2012 it would fall somewhere in the cocoa spectrum. mixing chocolate shades with vanilla hues you can find four delicious shades to choose from.

long lasting, long wearing and chip resistant these polishes are worth it. i love selecting two polishes from a polish collection to create the typical mani with an accent nail. they coordinate well and to be honest, accent nails are the new belly button. everyone has one.

Ming [Dynasty] meets Modern: Neiman Marcus Fashion Director Ken Downing creates hues in the season's most buzzed about Orient-inspired collection. with inspiration taken from the opulent color combinations defining Fall's runways, Ken Downing helped collaborate with LMDB to create The Coromandel Collection.

my favorite of the collection would be Cloisin-navy. this is Mr. Downing's new neutral for the season because 'it's deep and mysterious'. *sigh*

this collection will be found exclusively at Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman
