Neutrogena Mineral Makeup Foundation {Grail or Fail}

this week's grail or fail is courtesy of the original makeup guru, my SIL. we've spent a lot of time in the car together this week and one of our conversations was discussing the cost of department store brands vs. drugstore brands and whether or not they were comparable products.

one of Lindsay's favorite product that comes from the drugstore is Neutrogena Mineral Sheers. now this is the woman who introduced me to Bare Minerals several years ago and has a MAC collection that would make anyone drool. so when she recommends a product, i take it seriously.

the Neutrogena Mineral Sheers is a comparable product to the Bare Minerals loose powder foundation at a fraction of the cost. the coverage is not equal, but close enough to make it worth it. one suggestion she made to me was mixing it with your Bare Minerals foundation to make the product go a little bit further. pretty brilliant. if you are in the market for a new foundation that is fuss free, i would give this one a try. according to Lindsay, it's a Grail.

  1. I like the idea of mixing the two since I love Bare Minerals but they are slightly pricey. I was wondering if you could recommend a good but inexpensive tinted moisturizer. I've been using Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer underneath the Bare Minerals, but I'm close to being out and not sure if I want to spend $42 again if I can get decent results with another product. Thanks!

  2. I was curious what you think about Sheer Cover mineral make up. I was sold on Bare Minerals but didn't want to pay for it, and sheer cover is cheaper. So far, I've loved it, but I'm down to the end of mine again and I'm trying to decide what to get...because still it's $30. Just wondering if there's anything else out there?

  3. Ali, sorry i haven't replied sooner! i would recommend the Sonia Kashuk tinted moisturizer. i believe it runs around $10-12 and i have had several people recommend it to me. while i haven't tried the moisturizer myself, i do like the Sonia Kashuk product line.

    Claire, i haven't tried Sheer Cover mineral makeup. there are so many mineral products on the market now that you have two basic price points $30-40 or $8-15. maybe give the Neutrogena a try and see if it compares to Sheer Cover? i would love to hear what you think.

  4. Ok I bought the Neutrogena today, so we'll give it a whirl. I even had a $2 off coupon :) I bought cover girl mineral stuff and it was just nasty. Should've known! It was only $5. Can you return make up? Probably a dumb question.
    Anyway, my other question is what do people put on their faces that makes like a shimmer/sparkle/fresh look. I've seen it under people's eyes like on their cheekbone. Does that make sense? I've just started reading your blog, so I'm exciting about all your make up tips...I obviously don't know much about it all :)
