The Time I Met The Love Of My Life

"Disclosure: This post was sponsored by Universal Pictures through their partnership with POPSUGAR. While I was compensated to write a post about About Time, all opinions are my own."
i want to take you on a trip down memory lane and share with you a moment that i will never forget - the day i met my husband. to preface this story, i had heard about this Trever (who i often refer to as Tman) several times before our meeting. he was cute, young, successful, fun, athletic, musical and a blast to be around. at least, that is how my roommate and her gaggle of girlfriends liked to describe him. in my surly, punk rock, straight edge ways i would sneer and think - no one is that amazing.

until i met him.

a mutual friend had invited us both over for a potluck dinner. i begrudgingly was dragged along by my roommate and threw on an old baseball tee and my favorite pair of Gentle Soul boots - my go-to casual wear. for those of you who know me in real life know i am a social kind of gal. i like to talk, have fun, be in on the laughter and though my attitude at the start of this party was salty, it didn't take long for me to join in on the merry making.

sitting in a corner practically walled-in by chairs and people, Tman made his way over the crowd to sit by me. i was struck by his casual manner, his honest way of listening and his likeable attitude. so this was the famed Tman, the one everyone raved about. within a short while i realized everything that was ever said about him was true.

we talked for hours, we laughed, we joked, we re-told stories and then we parted ways.

Trever likes to describe it like this:

i saw her from across the room - this girl with an amazing smile - and i knew i needed to get close to her. after awkwardly climbing over several people and inserting myself directly next to her i spent the rest of the evening trying to make her laugh. suddenly the night was over, she was gone and i was kicking myself because i didn't even ask for her number.

thankfully the story has a happy ending (obvi) as we crossed paths only a week later. Tman and i were destined for each other.

so why am i taking you on this trip down memory lane? because i couldn't help but draw similarities between my fateful encounter with Tman and the movie About Time.

About Time – a film from Richard Curtis, the creator of Love Actually, Notting Hill, and Four Weddings and a Funeral. About Time is a personal and memorable film about a young man whose gift allows him to go back and relive any moment in his life. but instead of making every moment perfect, he learns that life and love are most extraordinary when you embrace all of their imperfections.

much like my run-in with Tman. it was beautiful, it was memorable and it was extraordinary but it certainly wasn't perfect. however, when you meet someone who you know is going to be an important person in your life, you will do whatever you can to make it work.

when the main characters Tim and Mary meet in the movie About Time, it isn't a perfect exchange. but the nuances and imperfections of that exchange are what makes it perfect. check out the trailer below for a brief introduction to About Time:

in theaters November 8.
