Shoe Clearance!

i occassionally get updates in my inbox from Nordstrom letting me know the latest sale info and this was one i have to pass on:

starting today you can save on the vast selection of top shoe brands and styles for women, men, and kids. fall styles are on sale so if you have yet to finish your back to school shopping, this is a great place to finish. not only that, Nordstrom is now offering free shipping! previously this was only offered if you spent a certain $ amount so take advantage of shopping from the luxury of your Lay-Z-Boy.

my husband bought me a pair of these adorable boots last year for Christmas. unfortunately, they were too tall for my short little legs. instead, i found these in the children's section for half the price, and they fit! so if there is a commons shoe style that you like (i.e. Uggs, Toms, Hunter), be sure to see if you can get these in the kids section first. anyone with a size 7 or under should be able to find something. size 8 and above, i'm sorry to say it's adults only for you :)

good luck!

Back To School Fashion

so i mentioned that i was in the works with a new blog...so i thought i would give you a few more details! my incredibly talented friend Kiki has a blog called Kiki Creates. we spoke a long time ago about the possibility of collaborating in the future, and well, the time has come! she and her awesome husband have put together a blog that i will be contributing to regularly. also included are fitness, photography, cooking, and of course, Kiki's specialty, crafts and DIY. below is the post i contributed most recently and the transition to word press should be coming soon.

please be sure to "Follow" both Kiki and I. we are really excited for this project and hope to turn it into something really special.

hello everyone! i am so excited to begin blogging with Kiki. the first time we met i went home and told my husband, "that girl is my idol. i want her for a friend." she is not only uber creative, she is fun, kind, and a great woman. now that i have raved about her, let me tell you a little about myself.

i am 30 years old, married, with 3 beautiful children. i began working as a makeup artist and received tons of questions, "how do you do that?" "what brushes do you use?" "what colors work for me?" i figured i might as well start blogging to answer these questions which is how Blushing Basics began. i love using makeup as a medium and faces as my canvas. i embrace all things girl-y: makeup, hair, clothes, nails...you get the idea. i don't consider myself an expert, but i am always trying to stay on top of the latest techniques and styles. if you ever have any questions or suggestions, please send me a note!

it's that time of year again. the leaves start to change, the weather starts to cool, and new trends are emerging. now that my son has started school, i face the challenge of getting myself, and 3 children, dressed and out the door by 8:15 a.m. time is of the essences so i need ideas that are quick and easy.

here is a preview of some of the upcoming trends we will be seeing this fall.

Crazy for Plaid

plaid is back and it is a great look for that casual every day wear. we will be seeing plaids in everything from shoes to shirts. just a few pieces added to your wardrobe will go a long way. while plaid has been around before it is being update with new styling, i.e. tunics, dresses, roll sleeves. get your plaid on.

I Love Polka Dots

polka dots are pretty and a fun way to stay feminine. this trend will be easy to wear. find yourself a cute top to go with some skinnies or a scarf to dress up a plain tee. get a little riskier with some peep toe platform pumps.

last but not least:

My Uniform

Pocket tee, $36
Gap, $70
H M lace scarve, £2.99
Kids' Shoes and Tiny TOMS

TOMS.com

when all else fails, stick to what you know best. i love putting on my stretchy jeggings with a white tee and whatever scarf i'm feeling at the moment. simply adding a scarf gives the vibe that you actually put a teeny bit of thought into what you are wearing that day. i like scarves simply for the fact that they make a plain outfit, not so plain anymore. most importantly, i am comfortable wearing this and i feel put together and confident.

whatever your go to is, look for ways you can make it current with this fall's trends and go for it. as long as you feel beautiful, you will look beautiful.

Recent Projects {Senior Pics}

let me start off with the disclaimer that although she is my niece, i still believe she is hands down one of the most beautiful girls EVER! she was such a good sport in this photoshoot even though it was FREEZING cold outside. i am so glad sthat she allowed Kellie the Great and i to do her Senior Pictures. the most difficult part was selecting which pictures to post. every single one was a gem!

love this girl. thanks for such a great shoot!

I'm Still Here

while my posting has been nonexistent the last few weeks don't feel i have forgotten about you! my family has a lot going on right now, a bun in the oven, a house on the market... which means a few things have fallen on the back burner for the time being, and one of those is blogging. i love doing this but i just have to focus on my family for a little bit. i'll try to post when time allows, please don't give up on me.

moving on, i have a product to recommend that i have been loving! i ran out of my current concealer and i decided to splurge on a new MAC one. while at the counter i was introduced to a new product, the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer.

i typically prefer a stick or cream concealer, not a liquid, but this liquid actually provides MEDIUM to FULL coverage. wow. that isn't easy to find in a liquid concealer. the coverage is smooth, the finish is matte, lasts up to 15 hours and looks fresh all day. my favorite feature is that it doesn't wipe off.

while i typically have dark circles under my eyes, they seem to get exponentially worse when i am pregnant and i need the maximum amount of coverage to keep me looking fresh and bright eyed. this concealer has been the perfect solution and at its price point ($16) it is not too much of a stretch from your typical drug store concealer. my only complaint would be that the pump expresses a little too much product, and i hate wasting this liquid gold.

in the realm of grail or fail, this concealer ranks on my GRAIL. thanks again for reading and please don't stop checking in.

Fashion Friday {fashion blogs}

a while back a friend recommended a fashion blog that shows how to put together cute outfits with clothes that have been thrifted (that's Mormon speak for: bought from a Thrift Store). this girl's blog is pretty adorable and looking through it gave me ideas for my own wardrobe. you can check it out HERE

every once in a while i like to hop online and check out cute frugal fashion blogs to get inspiration, ideas, and sometimes motivation. in the winter i easily get into slumps. add a pregnancy to that and i find myself falling prey to the hoody sweatshirts and sweatpants in my closet (not that there is anything wrong with that). i just know getting myself dressed in the morning gives me a more positive energy to take on the day.

here are a couple other fashion blogs you can take a look at if you're interested:

i would love to know if you have any good fashion blogs of your own that you like checking out? please share.

Recent Projects

i had the chance to do makeup for an amazing woman who was helping host the "Mandi-Ball" for THE Ohio State University Dental School. this years theme was Masquerade and she was inspired by a peacock. here's a look at her makeup:

she looked gorgeous and the best part was that we had an afternoon to spend together since those opportunities are few and far between. thanks for the fun adventure Ally.

you can check out more pictures of the event here. i am in love with her and her blog.
