MAC Halloween Makeup Ideas
Halloween is quickly approaching, do you have any costume ideas yet? if not, here are some gorgeous Halloween makeup ideas courtesy of MAC. if this doesn't spark some ideas i don't know what will! they are clever, glam, gorge and every other adjective worthy of the MAC title.
The Great Gatsby
go 1920's glam with this Gatsby inspired look. straight golden brows, deep purple lips, white lined waterline and smokey eyes are all characteristics to play up. get your Jazz Age gear ready by pairing with a flapper dress and perhaps an old bottle, this was the era of Prohibition after all...
Catwoman
this Dark Knight look is so simple to recreate. stick with your typical glam makeup look accented by some berry red lips. 'paint' your mask on easily by using tape as a border for your mask lines - then simply fill in with black.
Gotye
why not go as 'Somebody That I Used To Know'? this Gotye look would make the perfect couples costume. pair it with a nylon bodysuit and a partner willing to wear a chic black bob and you are set.
Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn is the classic Halloween costume. odds are, you or someone you know will be wearing this! characteristics of Marilyn makeup include black eyeliner, less color more contour, red lips and of course the signature mole. to get the extra Marilyn effect, be sure to line the lower waterline in white. this will give you her dreamy bedroom eyes.
Hunger Games
Capitol makeup anyone? Hunger Games makeup is all about extremes. take your brightest pink blush and use it on your lids, your temples and your cheek bones. redefine your lip shape and change the color of your brows to bring the look to life.
Nicki Minaj
my personal favorite look to imitate. Nicki has such a signature style. this makeup plus a pink wig, a cute tutu and knee high stockings will help complete your Nicki-esque style.

Make Your Own Halloween Costume!
here are some of my favorite Halloween costumes that you can make yourself. while time is definitely an investment, your bank account might thank you.
this first idea comes from one of my favorite crafting blogs. my SIL found it a couple years ago and immediately fell in love with the idea. pretty clever huh?

next idea pays homage to social networking. where would we be without it?
this last idea i love. it involves clever makeup, and costume. go pixilated.
so get your thinking caps on and come up with an idea that won't cost you a fortune. besides, half the fun is creating it. and while we're on this topic i still haven't completely given up on the trophy wife idea. any takers?

Pop Art Comic Makeup {Halloween}
in case you haven't you haven't heard, halloween has arrived! my favorite time of year for blogging because i get to be ridiculous, have fun and share it with you. even though my costume makeup skills are nil i love doing these tutorials. maybe they will spark some ideas for your own costume or give you a push in the right direction. regardless, they are usually a good laugh (Tman and i still crack up at my pirate makeup tutorial - ARRRGGGHH).

Scale Nails {Nail Tutorial}
in true Halloween form i have put together a tutorial using some products recently sent for review. the product shown above is a limited edition JulieG nail polish for Jesse's Girl Cosmetics. Jesse's Girl is a great option for Halloween makeup if you are going for those great makeup looks (like the MAC ones i previewed here).
perhaps you were thinking along the lines of mermaid? check out my fish makeup tutorial here which would work perfectly with the nail tutorial below for scale nails:

Special FX Halloween Tutorial {Step by Step Video}

| zombie skin tone courtesy of pic monkey |
i am a picmonkey addict. operating a blog without photoshop is like running a car without gas. you just need it. this budget blogger stumbled upon picmonkey when looking for free editing sites and has never turned back! the point of this ramble is that picmonkey is offering special Halloween Effects for the month of October and i am now more addicted than ever. if anyone knows a twelve step program for picmonkey, please share.
i may have taken some liberties with the picture above by using the 'Zombie Skin' filter, but the image below is untouched and will give you a clearer idea of what i'm teaching:
with a few basic makeup materials i created scar tissue, road rash, stitches and goth eyes, all under 5 minutes. interested in how it is done? just watch the video below.

Pirate Halloween Makeup Video
i like to think that makeup is the most crucial step in a halloween costume. i also think i am highly biased. the next few weeks i will be putting together some halloween makeup tutorials that you CAN do yourself. they are simple, easy, and will give your costume that extra oompf.
the first tutorial is Pirate Halloween makeup. so simple and you will look like a pro once your costume is complete:
any requests for future videos, just let me know. happy haunting!

Make Your Own Halloween Costume Contest
i know it is only mid-September but Halloween is right around the corner if you are a Halloween enthusiast like myself. [insert evil laugh here]
i was brainstorming for some Halloween costume ideas, particularly makeup ideas, and i thought i would bring it to my audience for some help.
i have decided to host a contest for Halloween makeup/costume ideas. here's how it goes. for each Halloween costume idea, you will receive ONE entry (maximum of three ideas per person). if you have a picture to include of the costume, an additional entry.
you might be asking, what's in it for me? well i'll tell you, it's good. real good. the winner will receive an official kudos from me...

Halloween Makeup Ideas
what do you do when your husband is working on a Friday night? i like to play with my Halloween makeup. i whipped out my trusty $5 kit from CVS and had fun experimenting with application and ideas. since it was just me, i made do with my kit and whatever i had around the house. here's what i came up with:
you know what they say, practice makes perfect. i could definitely use a little practice in the costume makeup dept.

ps.just wanted to include the link to the book if you are interested.
| of course i did GAGA. who doesn't dream of dressing up like this? |

Venomous Halloween Makeup
this is quite possibly the most humiliating post i have done to date. let me just say that I AM NOT a costume makeup artist. this is just for fun so please laugh with me as you witness a large forehead become even larger when i erase my eyebrows! don't worry, i quickly draw new eyebrows back on.
curious yet? you better watch.
i used an inexpensive halloween makeup kit for this look, as well as a few items of my own:
MAC eyeshadow - Black Tied, Omega and Surreal
Liquid Eyeliner
Mascara
i would LOVE to hear what your thoughts are on this video.

How to Apply Halloween Makeup
this week is going to be dedicated to one of my favorite holidays, Halloween. there's something about the social acceptability to dress however you like, wear crazy wigs, and apply pancake makeup to your face that just touches a soft spot in my heart. if you're anything like one of my fave bloggers you can skip all this and go as a trophy wife. hmm...buy a gold swimsuit and roll myself in glitter? sounds like fun.
for today's tip i am going to explain how to achieve the old lady/man face. this is a great makeup technique that can be used for many different costumes, and most of the makeup used is stuff you may already own.
step #1: apply your foundation makeup all over face and neck.
step #2: scrunch up your face to find your "natural" wrinkles. apply makeup that is a shade lighter than your nautral skin tone.
step #3: quit scrunching your face and fill in the creases left with a light brown eyeliner/eyebrow pencil. make sure to add emphasis to your crows feet, and the creases around your nose.
step #4: make your cheeks look even more sunken by darkening the hollows with a contour shade (a grey/brown color). use this same shade to darken alone your jaw line.
step #4: use your pencil liner to add liver spots and broken capillaries.
step #5: blend blend blend. pull out that large blending brush and give everything a good blend.
when you are finished apply baby powder to set the makeup. this can also give your skin a "dry" look (which is good). if you don't have a grey hair wig, use the baby powder in your hair. this is usually quite effective and not that difficult to wash out. take your look a step furthur by applying makeup/liver spots to the backs of your hands.
have fun!
